Corn Snakes

Corn snakes are one of the most popular pet snakes that you will be able to find and they are also one of the most available. These snakes have a dazzling array of colors they are very easy to breed and do not require large enclosures. The corn sakes, which are most often found in the Southeast part of the United States, are often found in the wild living in wooded areas, farmland and abandoned buildings and outbuildings. They are able to adapt to a wide range of environmental conditions. This trait is what makes them so easy to care for as pets.

Corn snakes are harmless, which means that they do not have venom and are very friendly towards humans. This is what makes them such great pets. Their diet consists mainly of small mice. Dinner time for these fellows is usually twice a week, but some only eat once a week. Though not heavy eaters, corn snakes do drink a lot and clean water is very important to their care.

A corn snakes does like two things in wherever he may be living: warmth and a hiding spot. Being a mostly domicile creature, they prefer to hide in order to feel secure in their environment. If they cannot find a place to hide, especially when being kept as pets, they are often stressed and may refuse to eat. Warmth is important for any snake, and the corn snake does appreciate a nice, warm area as well as a separate cooler area. Warmth for a corn snake is considered between 80-85 degrees Fahrenheit. Your average corn snake will end up about 4 feet in length and because of the breeding that takes place amongst owners they come in quite a wide range of colors. In the wild, the most common colors are orange, grey or brown with black splotches.
